So what is Keto Flu?

It would actually be better to call it a transition reaction/ period or even Carb Flu. In fact it's not a flu at all. It may affect you for a few days.

We all react differently to the transition between using glucose for energy to being keto/ fat adapted. It very much depends on how many carbs you are used to eating daily as well as your age. Of course if you are dependent on sugar the transition may take longer.

Firstly you have to ask yourself - Why do I want to start a ketogenic diet. There must surely be a reason, and it is this very reason you need to refer back, when you talk to yourself, to when you have a difficult moment. We are not saying it's going to be easy, but we are saying it's going to be worth it.

What will help initially is the feeling of getting loads of energy, a really clear head. But because your body has become dependent on carbs, it is confused. In fact your body may be craving for them making you feel sick and at this stage you may be very close to quitting. For your own sake - don't. Remember you must have had a reason for wanting and needing a healthier lifestyle. Carbohydrates/ sugar are toxic and your body has got used to these drugs.

What is important initially is to eat at least a teaspoon of Himalayan salt a day. Yes you need salt! As you transition to eating few carbs your body is no longer retaining the salt it used to. Each gram of carb will retain 3 grams of water. This is in fact not healthy for your body as it puts stress on many of your organs. You also need other electrolytes.
